BBL is a specialized light system used to reduce facial capillaries and redness. It is an advanced variant of IPL technology.
It is used especially in the following situations:
- Fine capillaries on the face (Telangiectasia)
- Widespread redness on the cheeks and nose
- Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea (ETR)
- Rosacea-related flushing attacks
1. How does BBL work?
The operating principle of BBL is quite simple:
1. Light of specific wavelengths is directed at the skin.
2. Light is absorbed by hemoglobin in the blood.
3. This energy is converted into heat.
4. Heat causes the targeted small blood vessels to close.
5. Over time, the appearance of the veins will decrease and the redness on the skin will subside.
So BBL treats capillaries by targeting them with light energy.
2. In what situations is it used?
Fine capillaries: Significant reduction
Blood vessels around the nose: Good results.
Redness on the cheeks: Good results.
Widespread facial flushing: Good outcome.
Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea: Good outcome.
3. How many sessions are required?
Generally:
- 3-5 sessions may be required.
- Sessions are spaced approximately 3-4 weeks apart.
- Improvement can be seen from the very first session.
- Additional sessions may be required depending on the patient's condition.
4. What are the advantages of BBL?
- It can treat large surfaces.
- It can reduce both capillary vessels and generalized redness.
- It usually doesn't require a significant waiting period.
- Daily life can be resumed shortly after the procedure.
- When treated with appropriate parameters, it is generally well tolerated.
6. What are the side effects?
- Temporary redness
- Mild swelling
- Burning sensation
- Rarely does crusting
- Skin darkening (PIH)
- Burns and blisters from improper energy use.
Particular caution should be exercised in patients with dark skin.
