Avoid rubbing the skin while cleansing.
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser for acne-prone skin. You can wash your face gently with your fingertips, no more than twice a day, and after sweating. Exfoliating, using sponges, or harsh scrubbing can irritate the skin.
Skin tolerance matters more than the number of products
It's important to choose alcohol-free, non-irritating products. Harsh toners and exfoliating products can worsen irritation in some people. Constantly switching between products or treatments also makes it difficult to assess results. Instead of changing your prescribed treatment on your own, discuss any dryness and irritation you experience with your doctor.
Note changes instead of squeezing pimples.
Squeezing pimples can prolong healing and increase the risk of scarring or dark spots. Noting your habit of touching your skin, noting when the problem worsens, and noting the products you use can help with the consultation. Acne has different causes and treatments that vary from person to person; daily care is not a substitute for medical evaluation when needed.
